About Neil….

Interested in public affairs from his early years, he was active in voluntary organisations from his late teens. His interests lay greatly with the needs of homeless and environmental concerns, especially the risk of nuclear pollution and proliferation. He conducted a successful law practice at the Bar of Ireland for 30 years.

He became a local councillor in 1985 and served until 1994 in which year he was Chairman of Dundalk UDC. As a local councillor, he was considered a conviction politician and applied himself to environmental and social causes. In these years He took part in actions at sea with Greenpeace and coauthored a Security and Safeguards Report which was fully adopted by the nuclear industry in the UK. He was an enthusiastic participant in Cross border bodies and a vehement supporter of the Hume Adams initiative, cease-fires and the Peace Process.

In his fifties, he lived in Australia where he worked in the successful Labour election for Kevin Rudd in 2007. Interests on the role of men in the world today, he was a cofounder of a successful and continuing group for Men’s Development. After taking an MA in Journalism in 2012 he worked in several business projects and moved to Fermanagh belatedly starting a family.

He was called to the Bar of Northern Ireland in 2017 and moved to Belfast in 2018 to commence law practice, fulfilling a lifelong ambition to work in Northern Ireland, in the fields of human rights and public law. He has lived in Germany and France speaks a little French and Spanish and has a good knowledge of European Countries which will stand to him as a member of EU Parliament.
Neil has a profound love of gardening, poetry and being out in boats. However, in his own inimitable words, there’s nothing quite like time spent with the family.  Time with family.  Neil’s paternal grandparents hailed from Armagh, maternal from Louth.

Mission & Values

We are living in interesting, indeed challenging times. This is no less so in these islands and NI in particular. Since the collapse of Assembly and executive, and the EU referendum in 2016, Northern Ireland has been in the midst of too much drift, a dearth of governance. Many opportunities exist to avoid the hazards of hard border and messiness of a no deal exit.

Northern Ireland needs representation that improves inter-community relations, the needs of agriculture and business, and provide s increasing career opportunities for the younger generations. The EU has helped NI in political, social and environmental terms. If elected I will work to ensure a continuing close relationship with EU countries, whether this involves actually remaining,  or developing as close a possible relationship with EU remain s to be seen. I am now a man of some life experience, a wide outlook on the world, a positive approach to daily life. I believe I have a valuable contribution to make as a member of EU Parliament. I ask that whatever your background you would consider me for your first preference or next highest vote. I commit to applying myself thoroughly to serving your needs and those of all of Northern Ireland and indeed all Europeans in this rapidly changing world.

Beyond The Tribe…

You thought that you were tribes.

Who taught you that?

You are not.

Then what are you?

You are folk of here.

You are the people of this land

This land of unspeakable beauty.

Wherever your ancestors left

To come here, and all of us came

Here from somewhere

other than here,

Where ever you came from

You came to learn love

You came to experience

Separateness and tribes temporarily.

Now is the moment.

Now is time

To step beyond tribe

Beyond class

And above all beyond

Senseless dying and shouts

That you call threats,

To step beyond separateness

And claim the oneness

To which we all belong.

If you sense a force beyond

The world you see,

That force is one,

That force is love,

That mothers you savagely

And tenderly until you know

We all belong, inside

One great universe

Of Love……..   N.
